Integration Focus: What is the reason for integrating these disciplines?

Many students need to visually see a vocabulary word before it is completely understood.

Learning Targets:

What you want students to know and be able to do as a result of learning process

Assessment Criteria:

The observable traits and dimensions of meeting the learning target—what it looks, sounds, or feels like when the student demonstrates this newly acquired knowledge or skill.

Students will be able to use the elements of art to depict vocabulary words.

Students will create a work of art for each vocabulary word in the unit, using the elements of art to depict the meaning of the word.

Students will be able to describe acurately, using the elements of art, how and why they chose to create each work of art.

Students will write a artist statement for each work of art, describing how and why they created it, and using the elements of art.

Students will use the elements of art in their artwork.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the elements of art by using them in each piece of art and then making a note of what they used in their artist statements.

Students will demonstrate the proper use of the art supplies available to them.

Students will properly use and clean all art supplies during the activity.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of art elements and their meaning.

Students will use art element vocabulary during peer reflection.

Responding/Reflecting: Guiding Questions before, during and after the lesson activity that help students build critical thinking skills, link big ideas with historical/cultural resources, and reflect on and assess their own and other’s art.

1. Describe

2. Analyze

Describe what art elements you will use for each vocabulary word.

What element do you think you'll use the most?

Describe what are elements you are using, and also why you may have changed your mind during the creating process.

How does this element depict your vocabulary word?

Describe why you chose each element of art.

Which elements were the hardest to use?

3. Interpret

4. Evaluate

How do you think you'll depict the vocabulary word?

What elements of art would you use to depict each vocab word?

How do you feel about your work so far?

Do you see clearly from your artwork what the vocabulary word is?

Share your work with a peer: Reflect on the peer's art and give feedback on further refinement.

Look at a peers work. Can you tell from each piece what vocabulary words they worked on?

Learning Sequence: Indicate steps needed to achieve learning targets
