Learning
Targets:
What
you want students to know and be able to do as a result of learning process
|
Assessment
Criteria:
The
observable traits and dimensions of meeting the learning target—what it looks,
sounds, or feels like when the student demonstrates this newly acquired
knowledge or skill.
|
|
Students will know the story of Chrysanthemum.
|
Students will listen to the story during read aloud and then brainstorm about what the story was about. Reflect as a whole group about how Chrysanthymum felt about her name.
|
|
Students will use the assigned jobs (curator, director, facilitator) to create a group tableau
|
The 3 students who are the facilitator, curator, and director, will be instructing group members. Communications among students, brainstorming, and group work.
|
Students will create a group tableau using space, shapes, energy, and time
|
Tableaus will have different shapes, size, energy, and space. Team members will work together and listen to the curator, facilitator, and director. Will hold a tableau for 30 seconds.

1.
Teacher will read aloud "Chrysanthemum" to the class. Teacher will lead a class discussion on Chrysanthemum and how she felt about her name.

2.
Teacher will break students into 6 groups, roughly 4 students per group. 2 groups will do a tableau for the beginning of the story, 2 groups will do a tableau for middle of the story and then 2 for the end. Students will be assigned parts (curator, facilitator, and director). Facilitators will lead a the group in a 2 minute discussion about Chrysanthymum and who wants to do what part.

Students will have 5 - 10 minutes to put together the tableaus. The director will instruct where each group member needs to stand. The teacher will tell the director how much time he/she has to create the tableau (roughly 5 minutes). The curator will then step in and make sure that all students can be seen and there are different levels to the tableau.

Class will use the wave to perform their tableaus. The first group will get into their tableau and hold the position for 5 seconds, then the next group will do their tableau. This will continue until all the groups have completed their tableaus. There is no talking during this performance.

Closing Reflection with Students
Did
you achieve the learning targets? How effectively did you meet each assessment
criteria for the lesson?
Reflect as a class with I Saw statements. I saw statements are positive statements that let the groups know what postive things other people noticed about their tableaus. For example, I saw the first group had many different levels on their tableaus. The teacher needs to make sure that each group has at least one I saw statements so they can hear the postivies about their performance.
